EOC Strings
Quick Links
Join Strings at ECES! Learning to play a string instrument helps your child develop an appreciation of the arts and specifically orchestral music. In addition to music, strings class creates a community where students work together to prepare for performance opportunities and grow in their confidence. Students also develop and utilize fine and gross motor skills, literacy, math and reading strategies. Learning a string instrument provides opportunities for community performances, as well as future scholarship and career opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
Parental/Guardian Involvement
Parental involvement is critical to the success of the child. Parents are asked to coordinate transportation to and from concerts and support their child’s practice at home.
Pioneering with Pre-Kindergarten
Many years ago, Eastover-Central became a School of Arts. In our effort to expand and explore new avenues of arts study for our students, we offer Pre-K students the opportunity to study violin! This initiative began in 2004 and we are the only school in CCS to offer this exciting opportunity to Pre-K!
Pre-K through 2nd Grade
We are proud to say that we offer strings to every student on EVERY grade level in the school! Strings instruction is given to all students from Pre-K through 2nd Grade. Instruments on this level are provided by the school. The program becomes elective in 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades, and parents of these students are asked to rent or purchase their child’s instrument. If you have questions about rentals or need financial assistance, please let Mrs. Tew know and see below for more information!
5th Grade
5th Graders are given the opportunity to study the violin, viola, cello & double bass (NEW!). If your child is interested in learning the double bass, please contact Mrs. Tew to discuss transportation options as a bass will not fit on school buses.
Rental & Purchase Information
For 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, renting or purchasing an instrument is required. However, we never want financial constraints to keep a child from learning an instrument. Financial assistance is available upon request to obtain an instrument. Please note these are limited and we ask that you only request based on need. If you have questions about how to obtain either a rental, purchase or scholarship instrument, please contact Mrs. Tew by Class Dojo or email: corrietew@ccs.k12.nc.us.
*Rental Stores Near Us & Online Rentals (ONLY FOR 3-5th GRADES)
*Please note, instruments must be a specific size and quality to best serve your child. Please check with Mrs. Tew first before purchasing an instrument not from a music store or a string-vendor site. Unfortunately, many instruments found on main retail sites are unsuitable for learning. Your child will also need the correct size to avoid injury. You can learn more about instrument sizing HERE. Students in 4th and 5th grader will also purchase Essential Elements for Strings Book 1 (for their instrument of choice). This book can be purchased at any music store or online.
